Micro-Credit Loan Program
|
The Gbeworbu Micro-Credit Loan Program got its start when Africa Yes's Steve Cameron happened to attend a talk by Mohamman Yunis in 2006 and learned about micro-credit and the work of Yunis' Grameen Foundation. A micro-credit program allows for the provision of small, collateral-free loans so that individuals can have access to needed capital to start small businesses. The majority of loans are made to women, who tend to lack any access to currency. With the assistance of the Grameen Foundation, a program was established, and to date has given out loans totaling more than $180,000 to villagers in Gberwobu and the surrounding area.
